Cats and Dogs are a big print category for MLL. The funny thing is that some years cats outpace dogs and visa versa. With cats it doesn't matter what the breed is that we profile, but with dogs it's a whole different story. Most kids who have a dog want a print that has their dog breed in it. The hard part is making sure we have a variety of breeds in our dog prints to keep everyone happy. Prints that just have one dog breed in them don't do as well, even if it is a trending dog like a French Bulldog. (Which I happen to be partial to as I have one!). Luckily, cats are an easier category for us as they don't have as many identifying characteristics. Overall cats outpace dogs for animal categories, sorry dog lovers out there!
The other interesting thing about cat and dog prints is that boys will wear dog prints but not cat prints. Meanwhile girls will wear both. So if we design a boy/girl companion collection it works better for the dog prints. If we do a cat print then we have a companion stripe to match for the boy.
